Real experiences from schools, parents, and students

The true measure of our work is the impact it has on young people’s progress, confidence, and future opportunities. Read what schools, families, and students have shared about their experience with Locked In Learning and the difference personalised support can make.

Real Impact. Real Progress.

At Locked In Learning, strong relationships and high expectations lead to meaningful outcomes. Here are first-hand accounts from those who have seen the positive impact of our alternative provision, mentoring and tuition services.

Martin built strong relationships with some of our most challenging students very quickly. Engagement improved significantly, attendance increased, and we saw measurable academic progress within a short period of support.

Sarah Thompson

The personalised approach and consistent communication made a real difference. Students who had previously disengaged began responding positively, showing improved confidence, behaviour, and academic commitment.

James Patel

My child had completely lost confidence in education. Through patience, structure, and belief, Martin helped rebuild that confidence and restore motivation. The change in attitude and progress has been remarkable.

Emma Richardson

Professional, reliable, and highly effective. The provision was tailored precisely to the student’s needs, and progress was carefully tracked. We would not hesitate to recommend this service.

David Collins

The quality of tuition and mentoring has been exceptional. Clear reporting, strong safeguarding practice, and consistent outcomes demonstrate a service built on integrity and expertise.

Rebecca Lawson

What stood out most was the genuine care shown alongside high expectations. My son not only achieved his qualifications but developed resilience and belief in himself again.

Martin has been absolutely incredible. He is not only knowledgeable and dedicated, but truly inspiring in the way he connects learning to confidence and curiosity. He has helped Dillon reach remarkable milestones by making every session fun, engaging, and positive. His encouragement and enthusiasm have made a genuine difference, not just in Dillon’s academic progress, but in his motivation and belief in himself. We couldn’t be more grateful for the impact he has had.

Having worked alongside Martin with many pupils, he has a very engaging, encouraging and inspirational approach to learning that will suit many different learners. He really cares about his impact on students and is diverse in his methods, whilst being very dedicated in supporting achievement.

Martin worked with Adem in the post covid year leading up to his GCSE exams.  Adem, having missed a huge amount of schooling, due to unmet SEN needs, was (despite a natural intelligence) falling far behind the curriculum and timeline to exams.  Martin really turned Adem’s attitude around.  He became a trusted confidant and tutor, where others had failed, Martin won Adem’s trust and respect and I credit Martin in no small part with us scraping through to the end of school without exclusion.

Martin really helped understand exactly what I needed to do to get my English GCSE. I truly believe that without his calm tuition,  I wouldn’t have passed. Martin also gave me the confidence to apply for a college course which I didn’t think I’d get into. I did and I’m really happy with the choice. Thank you Martin.

Martin was my tutor during Year 11. By the time he became my tutor, I was really struggling in school and had accepted that I would probably leave without any GCSEs, so I had largely stopped trying. At first I was quite against the change, especially as someone who is neurodivergent and finds changes in routine difficult.

However, Martin was very different from tutors I had worked with before. He took the time to get to know me, understand my interests and figure out what actually motivated me to learn. Because of that, he was able to support me in a way that genuinely worked for me.

In about six months, I went from expecting to leave school with no GCSEs to passing both English and Maths. I can honestly say that I credit that turnaround largely to Martin and the support he gave me.

I would recommend him as a tutor to absolutely anyone and I have already recommended him to others.

I wanted to share our wonderful experience working with Martin as a personal tutor for my daughter in preparation for her English, Maths and Science GCSEs.

She had regular face-to-face sessions with Martin twice a week over several months and I’m delighted to say that my daughter’s grades improved thanks to his support.

From the beginning, Martin’s friendly and approachable manner made it easy for my daughter to build trust. Such an important factor when working with teenagers. She always found Martin extremely helpful and really appreciated his caring approach to teaching. It’s clear that Martin is genuinely invested in the success of his students, adapting his teaching style as needed to make the most out of each session.

Martin has a real knack for connecting with teenagers and knows how to relate to them, which helps bring out the best in their learning and confidence. I would highly recommend Martin to anyone looking for a dedicated and effective tutor.

I worked with Martin for a length of time at Rowhill School. I felt he was a real asset as he could respond to the needs of the students there and encourage them to succeed by demonstrating empathy and the correct support. I feel Martin is very adaptable to any different situations and acts accordingly.

Martin made an outstanding impact in our Pupil Referral Unit. Teaching primarily Physical Exercise, he used sport as a powerful tool to engage, motivate and build confidence in our students. He built strong, genuine relationships and earned the respect of even our most challenging young people. The students truly adored him because he was fair, consistent and always had their best interests at heart.

Calm, professional and highly reliable, Martin would be a valuable asset to any educational setting. I would recommend him to any parent without hesitation when setting up his own business in the education sector.

Martin was an excellent coach to me — patient, encouraging and consistently motivating. He took the time to support my individual development and always pushed me to improve, helping me grow in both skill and confidence. He genuinely cared about the team as a whole and always acted in its best interests. Martin was highly respected and created a positive, focused team dynamic where everyone felt supported and driven to succeed. I’m grateful for the impact he had on my development.
